Gareth.T has released “浅粉红”, co-composed with Patrick Yip and written by frequent collaborator Wyman Wong. The release features two versions of the same song: the 90s alt-rock inspired “浅粉红 pale pink” and the stripped-back, piano-only “浅粉红 baby pink.” With identical melody and lyrics but contrasting arrangements, one a ‘90s full-band sound rarely heard in Cantopop, the other a solitary piano accompaniment, the track takes the same heartbreak and frames it through two distinct emotional worlds.
The song draws a metaphor between wound care and emotional trauma: even after a cut is treated and closed, the deeper pain remains. Wyman’s lyrics describe scars as dormant volcanoes on the skin, where the surface appears restored, yet the blood marks remain exactly where they began. This image is painted in the lines:

At its heart, the song accepts that we can never return to a pure, untouched state. Instead, we bury severe pain beneath a performance of strength, living with a pale pink scar light enough to hide from the outside world, while quietly wondering whether the other person also carries an unhealed wound.
Ultimately, “浅粉红” is a bittersweet surrender to the permanence of heartbreak. It gives up the hope of ever becoming completely unblemished again, and concludes that the only way to face a scar is to live with it. When people ask about the mark, all one can do is offer a bitter smile and say it was a gift from a past love.
